SUPERPROX® MODEL SM900 SERIES

30MM SONIC OFFERS DEADBAND, PUSHBUTTON "TEACH" SETUP

Markham, Ontario-March 18, 2002-- - With two of the shortest deadbands in the industry for 30 mm ultrasonic, proximity sensors, the new SUPERPROX® Model SM900 sensor series offers small size, mounting convenience and unique configurability for simple On/Off detection. To meet very tight space requirements, the deadbands of 51 mm (2") and 120 mm (4.7"), combined with the small size, provide efficient proximity detection within sensing ranges up to 1 m (39") and 2 m (79"), respectively. A simple pushbutton "teach" setup method is used to set a sensing window of any size or a standard sensing window of 13 mm (0.5"), anywhere within the range. A discriminating microprocessor enables the sensors to detect only those objects within the set window and ignore all others. To meet a variety of proximity sensing requirements, the sensor's other configuration selections include Normally Open or Closed NPN and PNP output, Complementary Normally Open and Closed NPN output, Complementary Normally Open and Closed PNP output and response times from 2.5 seconds to as fast as one duty cycle at 15/20 ms.

The sensors operate on 12 to 24 VDC and are available with DeviceNet communications capability. Typical applications include detection of container backups and gaps, web breaks and holes, end of rolls and coils, parts present or missing parts, end-of-line stops, and down containers. Others include container accumulation, indexing and orientation. They also detect objects with round or irregular, nonperpendicular profiles and produce outputs for no container/no fill and no container/no cap control. In conveying operations, these sensors can reliably sense objects moving at speeds up to 2000 units per minute.

Unlike photoelectric sensors, these SUPERPROX sensors are virtually unaffected by changing light conditions or colors, dirt and dust, splashing food, caustic cleaning solutions, frequent high-pressure wash downs and noncondensing humidity. The sensor series carries the CE Mark, and the housing, available in either standard ULTEM® (FDA approved) blue plastic or SS303 stainless steel, meets NEMA 4X and IP67 industry standards.
